What We Do
MISSION
Feed hungry kids in a safe
community environment!
The foundation of a strong community is healthy children.
Children must be adequately fed everyday to reach their full potential. A
child that has enough to eat will do better in school and will have a better
chance to live life productively.
PREPARED MEALS PROGRAM:
School Year:
Healthy food is made fresh Monday - Friday and delivered to AVAIL & Crossroads (alternative high schools), Camp Fire USA (after school program), Boys & Girls Club (early morning snack program) and THREAD (parenting classes as needed). An emphasis is made to expose the kids to delicious food that will give them the nurtients they need for their growing bodies and minds. What the kids eat today will affect what they eat as adults.
Summer:
The healthy menu is expanded to add snacks with the following summer enrichment programs being served: Camp Fire USA, Boys & Girls Clubs (Woodland & Northeast), Denali Family Services, Gateway, Parachutes and Mediak.
In September 2008 The Children's Lunchbox launched a pilot programs
dubbed “Just a Little Extra”. Many children rely on the free or
reduced breakfast and lunch program at school but where/what do they eat on the
weekends?
Just
A Little Extra provides a healthy breakfast, lunch and dinner (with enough
food to provide at least four meals - sometimes five!) for children to
take home every Friday. Current funding allows us to provide food for 387
children at Mountain View Elementary. But many more children in our community
are in need of additional nutrition. We are gearing up to fund a second school for the 2010/2011. Your donations make a difference!
If you would like to
